Rice University’s real estate portfolio includes thousands of acres just outside Houston

Rice University’s role as a landlord has been brought to light recently with two prominent commercial properties: Rice Village and the Midtown Searsbuilding.

Yet the university controls a swath of suburban land that hasn’t gotten as much attention lately: 4,000 acres in Waller County.

The property was part of the founding endowment to the university from the William Marsh Rice estate.
