DALLAS (May 14, 2012) – The CREW Classic, an event organized through CREW in the Community, the 501c(3) of Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) Dallas, was held at Gleneagles Country Club on Monday, April 23rd. The 26th annual event again raised money for local charities that help to improve the lives of Dallas-area women and girls. The tournament was sold out to 130 professionals associated with 65 commercial real estate firms playing the course.

An exciting aspect to the tournament was the 2nd annual “Helicopter Golf Ball Drop” at 5:30 p.m., where pre-sold yellow golf balls (@ $10 each) were dropped over the driving range. The winner of the “drop” with the ball landing closest to the pin, earned $1,000 instant cash. Winner of the drop was Kelly Cloud from Austin Texas.

The day ended with the Classic’s 19th Hole Party (“where the golf ended, the party began!”) that started at 5 p.m. with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, music by The Walton Stout Band, and a live and silent auction with outstanding gifts and trips. Some of the buyers were Augie Valdez and Brenda Blake. Gary Cogill, performing arts and movie critic, served as emcee for the live auction. The party was open to the real estate community and the public..

The live auction captured everyone’s imagination, with items for bid ranging from Custom Jewelry donated by Henry Kostman to Commissioned Art by Fidel Ortega to a Jackson Hole, Wyoming vacation to a Hog Hunt.

The annual golf classic draws men and women alike for an enjoyable day at the links while raising money to benefit organizations that help Dallas’ women and girls. “We seek to offer our players the best golfing experience in Dallas and the opportunity to earn money for a worthy cause,” said Regina Weaver, 2012 CREW Dallas director of community programs (CDK Realty Advisors).

“We feel that CREW members who work so hard on the tournament, as well as those people who sponsor or participate in the CREW Classic, should know where the dollars raised are actually given and the good they do in our community,” said Rebecca Tudor, current president of CREW Dallas (Twinrose Investments).

This year, tournament proceeds will provide assistance to local organizations funded through Dallas Women’s Foundation; fund research grants for women’s health issues through University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center; and support to CREW Foundation, a national organization. CREW Dallas members have raised more than $3 million given to more than 40 local non-profit organizations.

CREW Dallas was among the first women’s organizations in Dallas to launch its own golf tournament. Other tournaments included Big Brothers and Sisters, launched in 1967, and Girls Clubs in 2006.

The CREW Classic 2012 committee includes Paula Nelson, chair of the 2012 CREW Classic golf tournament (Cushman & Wakefield of Texas, Inc.), and co-chairs Maschera Usrey (Cushman & Wakefield of Texas, Inc.) and Carla Machulis (Henry S. Miller Realty Services). Over 60 professional CREW members representing over 50 companies serve as volunteers. Major sponsors of the tournament were BB&T, Locke Lord LLP, Butler Burgher Group and Chicago Title Insurance Company.

ABOUT CREW DALLAS

CREW Dallas is a nonprofit organization of commercial real estate professionals affiliated nationally through membership in CREW Network. Their mission is to advance the achievements of women in commercial real estate while positively impacting the industry. The 31- year-old CREW Dallas provides opportunities for networking, business development, education, leadership development and civic/philanthropic involvement and seeks to positively impact the industry and community.
