At TxDOT’s Directive, Smithville School District to Spend $300,000 to Relocate High School Driveway

After a year of discussion, the Smithville school board on Feb. 25 approved a $300,000 plan, as per requirements by the Texas Department of Transportation, to demolish an existing driveway that connects Smithville High School’s parking lot to Texas 95 and relocate it about 200 feet north to align it with FM 535. The realignment would create a four-way intersection and allow for a safer flow of traffic as the school’s new sports complex and incoming junior high school are expected to bring a heavier flow of traffic to the area.
