Ikea reportedly buying 160 acres in Generation Park`

Ikea is under contract to buy 160 acres as the site of a new distribution center in Generation Park, a master-planned project of McCord Development in northeast Houston, according to a news report.

The Houston Business Journal, which cited unnamed sources, said the home furnishings retailer eventually will build between 1.2 million square feet and 1.5 million square feet of distribution space on the land.

Calls to Ikea and Generation Park have not been returned.

Last year, Ikea moved into a 1 million-square-foot distribution center in the Cedar Port Industrial Park in Baytown.

Ikea signed a 5-year lease for the buildings, which are owned by Canada-based Pure Industrial Real Estate Trust.
