Texas population grows quickly, Census data shows

Matt Trommer
The population of Texas is estimated at well over 26 million in 2013 by the U.S. Census Bureau.

The population in Texas is well on its way to 27 million, according to new estimates released Monday by the U.S. Census Bureau.

The bureau’s 2013 estimate for the Texas population is 26,448,193, which is up more than 1.3 million from the 2010 Census figure of 25,145,561.

California is still far and away the country’s most populous state, with more than 38 million residents — and still growing.

Though New York is still ranked behind Texas as the third-most-populous state in America, Florida is rapidly closing the gap, according to an analysis of the data by Buffalo Business First, an affiliated publication of Dallas Business Journal.
